Shai Harrison's Fundraiser
Help Philly Students Make Waves
Join me in raising $1,000 for Philadelphia City Rowing’s free programs — where teamwork meets opportunity.
My name is Shai, and I’m a 15-year-old sophomore at Science Leadership Academy, a Philadelphia public school. I’m fundraising for the Philadelphia City Rowing Indoor Classic, and my goal is to raise $1,000. That could be $1 from 1,000 people, $10 from 100 people, $100 from 10 people — or anything in between. Every single dollar matters, and I truly appreciate anything anyone can give.
Many people don’t know that Philadelphia has a citywide rowing team for public school students — but it’s true. And many of you probably don’t know that I’m a rower — but that’s true too! I began rowing in the summer of 2025 and joined the PCR team in September 2025. Honestly, it’s not my favorite sport (my mom made me do it — LOL!), but I’m sticking with it, and I really appreciate the opportunity. Philadelphia City Rowing’s program is full-time and intense, and it’s teaching me commitment, discipline, teamwork, and how to push through challenges, even when things get tough. Because of Philadelphia City Rowing (PCR), I’ve gained access to culture, community, and opportunities I might not have had otherwise as a Philly public school student, and I’m really grateful for that.
I know I’m following in the legacy of other Philly public school rowers, but I also understand my responsibility to help lead and inspire the students coming after me. I want to do my part to make sure other kids have the same opportunities I’ve had and see what’s possible when they’re given the chance.
On February 21, 2026, I’ll be racing at the Philadelphia Indoor Classic, a high-energy event hosted at the School of the Future in West Philadelphia. The event brings together youth rowing programs, families, and community groups for a full day of races, relays, music, and fun. All funds raised go directly to Philadelphia City Rowing, the only youth development organization in Philadelphia to offer a free, comprehensive sports program that combines academic support, mentorship, team-building, and wellness education — giving students access to experiences that can shape their future.
I’m proud to support PCR because I believe every Philadelphia public school student deserves access to mentorship, encouragement, and positive opportunities — no matter their background or family income.
I’ve created this fundraiser to help ensure even more Philly students can have these same opportunities. If you’re able to donate, I’d be truly grateful for your support. If you can come to the event, that would mean a lot, too. I would also love any encouragement, prayers, thoughts, or love — every bit makes a big difference.
Thank you so much for supporting me and helping create opportunities for Philadelphia public school students like me. ❤️
